Well, I was certainly surprised today when I went to TokyoHive and saw that IU had released a Japanese single. I had no idea she was even going to debut in Japan.
Honestly, I'm not a big fan of how every company in Korea has started sending their artists to other countries (mostly Japan, a couple of times the U.S., and sometimes China). It was cool the first time I figured out that Girls' Generation had Japanese songs (because at that time I couldn't sing in Korean at all), and then I saw other artists doing it, and then more... before I know it like every Kpop artist has Japanese songs!
Then let's not forget how the Wonder Girls have been in the U.S. for almost 3 years. Of course, I'm glad they did, because that's how I heard of them and Kpop in general. But then I heard that 2NE1 was going to debut here, too... and then Girls' Generation released "The Boys". I'm a GG fan, and I was super excited, but at the same time it's like "Hello, two bands have already done this ahead of you!" The only reason I let it slide is because Jessica and Tiffany are American.
But I digress…
When I saw that IU was releasing a Japanese song, I was slightly upset. She has such a unique voice that I believe Korea needs her now to show more diversity than what they're getting right now. However, I was still interested to hear the Japanese version of "Good Day", because it's a brilliant song and I like the Japanese language better than Korean. :P
I don't speak Japanese yet, but as far as I can tell, her pronunciation is pretty good compared to some other Kpop artists' *cough*4minute*cough*. And that "aita, seino" near the end was just so freaking kawaii!
The one thing I really didn't like was that they tried to recreate the Korean music video. First of all, the original music video made no sense to me in the first place. The Japanese remake still didn't make any sense, and it looked a little cheap compared to the original. However, there will still elements from the video that I really enjoyed -- mostly the random appearances of the band. XD
IU, I really liked your Japanese version of this song, but please don't stay in Japan too long! KOREA NEEDS YOU!!!
